Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI)
The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Industry has more than 70,000 member companies in the west and north-west of the Federal State of Brandenburg which comprises the chamber's district. Most of these companies are in the trade, services and tourism sector. However, the gross domestic product is mainly earned by industry, construction and transport.
The economic structures in East Germany – so in Brandenburg – underwent fundamental changes after the unification in 1990. Many new and future-oriented businesses were developed. The main industries in the chamber's region are the construction of vehicles for road and rail (in Brandenburg, Hennigsdorf, Ludwigsfelde), electronics/telecommunication (Potsdam), medical instruments/optics/pharma (in Teltow, Rathenow, Oranienburg), biotechnology (in Luckenwalde, Potsdam), aircraft engines (in Dahlewitz) and environmental engineering.
The chamber's region is a recognized science, research and technology location. The 3 universities, 2 polytechnics, 1 film school and more than 15 research centres benefit from the vicinity of Berlin. In addition, there are small and medium-sized technology firms with highly specialized know-how as well as specialized business centres.
The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the self-administrating organisation of the regional business community. It offers assistance to the member companies regarding training, advice, cooperation, management, funds, foreign trade and business information. The Potsdam CCI organizes international business meetings and trade missions and is involved in numerous EU projects. The experiences as lead partner or partner include projects in the energy, environmental, tourism, railway, medical, wood-working and food sector in the frame of Interreg, Intelligent Energy Europe, Asia-Invest, Al-Invest, Interprise as well as regional and federal programmes.
The Potsdam Chamber is host to the Brandenburg Energy Technology Initiative (ETI). ETI was initiated by the Brandenburg Ministry of Economics in 1998 for the promotion and development of innovative and energy saving technologies in Brandenburg. Today, more than 500 companies and institutions work in the nine thematic ETI task groups. One of the task groups has been committed to energy efficiency in the building sector for many years. The initiative works towards realising the energy and CO2 saving targets outlined in the Brandenburg Energy Strategy 2020. Besides, the Potsdam Chamber is a regional partner and promoter of the KfW energy efficiency funds of the German government.
