Conference on Sustainable Urban Development and Financial Approaches

The Urb.Energy Midterm Conference was held on 10 June 2010 in Warsaw.  It was hosted by the City of Piaseczno, the Polish “National Energy Conservation Agency” (NAPE) and the National Economy Bank (BGK) of Poland. Around 70 participants, i.e. project partners and Polish experts, took part in the conference.

The event was divided into thematic sessions with presentations and one panel discussion. In the first session approaches of sustainable urban development were presented by German and Polish experts.  Afterwards, the participants were introduced to the case studies of the two Urb.Energy partner cities Piaseczno, Poland and Riga, Latvia.

The next session dealt with financing tools for sustainable urban development. Experts from the partner countries, as well as representatives from the European Investment Bank and the Polish National Economy Bank explained existing financing tools for urban development measures.

The conference was concluded by a panel discussion with Polish, Estonian and German experts, which discussed the challenges and potentials of energy efficient renewal of neighbourhoods in the context of integrated development concepts.
